Project Overview
The project is to refurbish the Isal aluminum production plant, and add additional production capacity, of the existing plant just south of Reykjavik, Iceland.
The project owner is Rio Tinto. The project is currently (2009-Q4) on-hold and has not yet received an official notice to proceed.
Our customer is HRV, a consortium of Icelandic engineering companies, which includes Verkis (formerly VST).
The project has a minimal staff and is surviving with month-to-month payments from Rio Tinto. It is likely, as the economy and aluminum prices improve, that the project will be activated. One statement was that the project was too expensive to cancel.
The project team is currently do procurement and design tasks.
